NEWSGROUP/MAILING LIST

 

One of the most fascinating ways of operating Internet is making use of Newsgroup/ Mailing list. To give an example of what Newsgroup is and h conference, in a standard or conventional way, a conference is the way in which a group of people meet in a physical place and where one or more speakers are delivering lectures or presenting papers. Moreover, in the same conference the various speeches can attract and stimulate discussion among those present.

So basically a conference is a place where one or more people are speaking and all those present are listening and eventually direct questions to the speaker. A Newsgroup/mailing list is similar to a conference but in this case all the participants in the discussion are located in different parts of the world. A specific Newsgroup/Mailing list is characterized by a specific topic that will be discussed among the members of the group.

For instance, there are thousands of groups divided into various topics that can be easily selected and located in the specific Newsgroup list via internet. Once the user has located through the Internet, his Newsgroup of interest, the groups e-mail address will be indicated. Through this address it is possible to send a message indicating the intention to join the group. When the reply is received, and his request has been accepted, the user will receive all the messages that the members of the group will be sending to the same address and he will in turn participate in the discussion going on by sending his own contributions.

Any time a group member is sending a message to the group, it will be distributed to all the members. This is similar to a conventional conference but in this case, the participants are located in different parts of the world and are participating at different times.
