Late Prof. Thomas Chukwuemeka Nwodo
First President/Founder of ISOC Nigeria Chapter
(1938 - 2005)

Background/Education:

Professor Thomas Chukwuemeka Nwodo was born on October 20, 1938 in Enugu, Nigeria. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. Master and Ph.D degree; in Electrical Engineering from University of Manchester and London in 1967 and 1976 respectively.

Academic Life:

 He was a Professor of Electrical Power Engineering in Enugu State University of Science and Technology, one time Vice Chancellor of the same university, a Visiting Professor to the following Universities:


(i)                  Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt
(ii)                Federal University of Technology, Owerri
(iii)               University of Port Harcourt
(iv)              University of Uyo
(v)                Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka

 He was a front line researcher in Power System Planning and Operation, Voltage Collapse and Stability.
 He left behind a library of literature in Power System Engineering, Neural Network/Artificial Intelligence and Robotics

 Life Style

 He was a good man, full of humility and a peacemaker.  He was an advocate of Excellence and never failed to encourage his students to achieve greater heights.

 Interest in Internet

His philosophy for Information Technology (IT) was that every body should be computer literate thus he pioneered the 1st International Conference of Internet Society, Nigeria Chapter in Port Harcourt, 20th – 22nd January, 1999 with a presentation “Internet is for Everyone”.

 He ensured that the Society organized free lectures, workshop and seminars on the use of Internet and even provided Internet facilities to a number of institutions in Nigeria

 He will be remembered by his students, the University Communities in Nigeria, the Internet Society, and Academia, Friends and Relatives
